Summer Party 7

IBP Summer Party

Our Summer Party brings together journalists and communication professionals for an evening of conversation and insight, with influential panel exploring the issues shaping the sector.

Last year’s theme, AI: How far is too far?, looked at the ethical boundaries of AI in communications, with discussion ranging from newsroom practice to the acceptable level of use of AI in article and content creation. This year, in response to overwhelming demand, we're doing another deep dive into practical uses of AI in the media.

Our flagship event, the annual IBP Awards, has celebrated the very best in built environment journalism for more than 50 years and has become a benchmark for excellence.

Reflecting our evolving mission and growing community, the 2025 awards introduced a new category, Podcast of the Year.

IBP Summer Party

Wednesday 29 July 2026, 5.30pm-8.30pm

As well as an opportunity to enjoy an evening networking, drinks and canapes, we will also hear from some key influencers in our industry in a 45-minute panel discussion. Following on from last year’s debate, this year our experts will discuss: What does Artificial Intelligence mean for Journalism and Communications?

Panel:

  • Colin Marrs, editor of Construction News with 30 years of journalism experience on a variety of built environment and public sector titles

  • Dominic Ponsford, editor-in-chief of Press Gazette and founder of the British Journalism Awards, Future of Media Awards and Future of Media Technology Conference

  • Jonathan Prynn, national media journalist

  • Chris Stokel-Walker, journalist and communicator specialising in tech, AI, and digital culture

  • Bethany Wheatley, managing director in FTI Consulting’s digital and insights team

The IBP Awards 2026 will take place at the Building Centre in London on 3 December, celebrating excellence in built environment journalism and communications.
